Drunk Mom New Year's Eve 2012

It all started last year - the first year The Husband and I didn't spend New Year's Eve together since we've known each other because he moved to DC. So I did what any normal girl would do...I called the BFF and asked her to come over for what would be an epic night that would forever after be known as Drunk Mom NewYear's Eve ©This year, we did a little something extra besides the drink of the night (Pomosas - pomegranate juice and champagne), drinking game for MTV, and gorging on junk food.  We decided to film the evening AND watch Magic Mike while commentating! Now, we get more hilarious as the evening progresses and becomes full blown Drunk Mom New Year's Eve © - at least we thought we were funny and that's all that matters.  ;)

Tuesday Truths

So here are a few things on my mind....

1) I really think that every 5 years after your wedding, you should be allowed to throw yourself a shower and register for new stuff.  I can't stand most of what I have now that I registered for back then, plus, there is always newer and better stuff coming out.

2) I'm tired of people being lazy with basic grammar.  Is it really that hard to remember the difference between "your" and "you're"?

3) I'm really over when people ask me if I know any of the cast of the Jersey Shore when I tell them I'm from Jersey.  Seriously?!

4) For once, I'd like to see a film adaptation of the book actually follow the story from said book.  I'm really curious how the hell the film industry is planning on making Fifty Shades of Grey into a movie *without* it being a porno.

5) I will do laundry and repeatedly re-run the dryer because I've taken so long to get the clothes that they are wrinkled.

6) I'm really convinced some girls don't have friends or family members who love them enough to tell them they look awful in clothes that are too small.  Ladies, why the hell are you leaving the house with clothes on that belong in the junior department when you are CLEARLY not a junior??

7) I'm not ashamed to admit that, even though I'm an English teacher, I have the worst habit of misspelling words and I will sing "Hollaback Girl" to remember how to spell bananas.  Thank you, Gwen Stefani!

8) My "Five" are (in no particular order): Matthew McConaughey, Justin Timberlake, Channing Tatum, Bradley Cooper, and Leonardo DiCaprio

9) I really think some people feel the stick that is to the side of the steering wheel is a cute little accessory to hang shit from.  It's called a blinker.  When you are planning on making a turn, please use it so I don't run into your dumb ass.  Also, when you're done with it, SHUT IT OFF!

10) I'm not above tricking my child into going to bed rather than getting her that drink of water I KNOW she only wanted because it's bed time.  I will go to sleep tonight just fine knowing that I had absolutely no intention of actually going back into her room in 10 minutes to give her the requested drink of water if she still wasn't asleep....also mentioning that she had to be lying down and not crying or whining in order for it to count.  I need to relish this time before she starts calling me out on my bullshit.

The Weaker Sex?

It's been a few days and I'm still coming down off my NKOTBSB high.  That really was a great concert and a much needed girls' night.  Attending that show got me thinking about how different men and women are when it comes to obsessing and sexually fantasizing over celebrities.  It all became clear after re-watching the video for "I  Want it That Way" by The Backstreet Boys.  The women in that video - much like the ones at the show - were absolutely rabid for these guys - no lie, I think I saw one chick foaming at the mouth.  There were girls screaming and crying and, quite literally, throwing themselves at them.  It was the same way at the show - recall if you will from my last post I saw 2 bras thrown on stage. Women go absolutely bananas when they see something, or someone, they want.  All caution is thrown to the wind and guards are down.  The word "vulnerable" doesn't even begin to describe what occurs.

Now with men, it's much simpler.  If there is a celebrity female they are nutting over, all that happens is they maybe pay a little closer attention to the tv when she comes on, or perhaps a magazine gets a little, um, "loved" and left in the bathroom or on the nightstand by the bed.  There's no screaming, certainly no crying, and God forbid, any throwing of themselves.  As a matter of fact, if the woman they desire happens to be a singer, do they attend her concert?  No, unless their wives or girlfriends are dragging them.  And they act pained to be at said concert.

There was always this tradition in my sorority towards the end of the year, we'd get a male stripper.  It was somewhat of a running joke, but it was always fun.  The sisters who got really into it, would get all over this poor guy.  I've been to other places where there is a male stripper and the guy practically gets raped by the women there.  Now, go to a strip club where the dancers are women and the main patrons are men and you will see a whole different scenario.  The men play it cool.  They simply approach the stage when they feel like it, give the girl a dollar after she shakes her ass in their face, and sit back down.  Even when getting a lap dance, the expression men have on their faces easily resembles the same expression they have when watching tv.  Complete poker face.

Going back to my boy band obsession....those guys knew Saturday night that if they wanted to get laid, all they had to do was point to the girl of their choice and go from there.  They also knew they were in complete control of the situation because they knew they were hot because of all the women giving the same screaming/crying/falling down reactions.  Whereas, were it the other way around, I'm not so sure the female celebrity would be so cocky.  Who knows, maybe I'm wrong, but what I know for sure is this: do NOT get in the way of a women who is throwing herself at her celebrity boy toy du jour or you are liable to get seriously injured.

Happy Mother's Day to me!

So I know my main intention with this blog was to primarily write about my weight loss journey, but hell...it's my blog and I can write what I damn well please! Yesterday was my second Mother's Day and my husband did a bang up job. We went to this fabulous restaurant called Flemings. AWESOME food!!! As if that wasn't good enough, he surprised me by upgrading my Blackberry to a Storm 2!!! Very exciting! I had been bitching that my phone was a POS for some time because the touch screen was giving out. Now I don't have to worry. :)

In other news, I watch, religiously I might add, The Real Housewives of New Jersey. I watch because I enjoy seeing places I grew up near. The downfall of this is that I usually get homesick when I watch it. I grew up in a big Italian family and all the housewives remind me of what I left home in order to "find myself". Well, I'm found and now I want to be closer to my family again. It really hit home last year when I had my daughter how important extended family is. I want my child to grow up knowing what it means to be Italian and to keep the traditions that make our family special. At least I'm not going through post-partum like I was last year when I was watching the show. I would cry after every episode....like bawling crying...because I missed my family so much. I am SO not a Southern girl AT ALL!!! I am a Yankee, Jersey girl through and through. NC gave me all that it could - independence, a career in teaching, a paid for education, a wonderful husband, my first home - but now it has nothing more to offer. The taxes are ridiculous, public education sucks, unless I find a relocated Yankee it's hard for me to find people I have things in commmon with, it's far from my family....I could go on and on, but I won't. The point is I am D-O-N-E done with NC! And watching RHONJ reminds me what I am missing at home. People who aren't from the North assume that everyone up there is an asshole or a bitch, but we're not. We are just assertive and we don't take any shit. We aren't passive-aggressive or two faced.

Another piece that's been on my mind is the desire to be a stay-at-home mom. I NEVER thought I'd ever say that. I'm SO not a June Cleaver, but the thought of being able to be with my daughter all day makes me happy. Unfortunately, the harsh reality is the fact that I make more money than my husband and if I were to quit my job, we'd be screwed. I'm not talking about going from filet mignon to spaghetti and peanut butter, I'm talking missing payments on our car, or not being able to afford our electric bill. We are not wealthy by any means - HELLO! I am a teacher and my husband works in radio. We are no millionaires. It just sucks that I don't even have the option of not working. I'm not interested in going in to a huge financial debt, because I'd be worried the whole time thinking that wasn't necessary instead of enjoying the time with my daughter. I'm not a religious freak by any means, just a good Italian Catholic, but I will be praying a lot for God to give me some kind of guidance as to what my next step should be with my family. The bottom line is I'm not happy here and I feel as though something is missing.
